EDLD 5363 Week 2

            The Web Conference this week was held on Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. and Dr. Kay Abernathy initiated the conference.   The discussion during the web conference was extremely helpful in explaining how the podcast was to be developed for week 2.  A selection of suggestions was given of tools that were available for us to utilize for the podcast.  Partners and team groups were discussed and many were still in need of group selection, but many groups are formed and already working together.   Once our podcast is complete, we will need to upload to a site such as Teacher Tube or YouTube.  We also need to be careful not to utilize the same video editing tool that we used in EDLD 5306.  This will give us an opportunity to utilize another video editing tool.  We need to understand that we are creating a podcast which will include a tutorial explaining how to best utilize the video editing tool that we have selected to use during the week two assignments.  We will also need to use a type of screen capture device so that we can better describe how to use the tool.  It was suggested that we could use a video editing tool such as Windows Movie Maker or iMovie to produce our tutorial. We discussed the licensing information requirements and the necessary notations.  We also discussed the discussion board and requirements for the week.  The web conference was very helpful in making the podcast assignment for the week clearer and more understandable.

      During the week one web conference, we discussed items concerning the digital photo story assignment.  Many members of the course still need partners to work with for the interview process for the project.  It was explained to us one of  the reasons that we utilize the partners is to allow someone else to review your script and story board to assist with helpful ideas and suggestions for your project.  After completing the script and the storyboard, I found it helpful to have some helpful input and suggestion so that I could reevaluate my photo story project and make adjustments to improve.  We also discussed our future group project where we will be working in a group of approximately four others to create a project for the course.  In working with these tools, we will learn to use various ways and methods to create a digital photo story and how to upload to YouTube.  We were told that we need to utilize Digital Photo Story Cookbook and this can guide us through the process of creating our own story board.  Another suggestion was to utilize Web 2.0 for help with the assignment.  Our digital photo story is a story about ourselves.  We are free to choose our topic for this digital photo story.  After completing the script, our partner can evaluate making suggestions for improvements to our story.  After we complete the digital photo story, we can use software such as Photo Story 3 and then upload to YouTube.  We are to post our digital photo story that is loaded on YouTube on our wiki and blog for others to view.  This will be a helpful project to guide us though the process of creating a digital photo story with pictures and narration and then upload to YouTube.  We are to post the link to our digital photo story and the link to our Wiki site in the week’s assignment.

    Looking back on this week's assignment, I was able to utilize Photo Story 3 to create a story about my families' experiences beyond the classroom.  I selected the topic of explaining how we had utilized travel and visiting various sights in the United States and abroad to assist in the education of our children.  I gathered photos that represented and highlighted some of the memorable experiences for our family.  Utilizing these photographs led to helping me create a script and storyboard for my final video.  It really helped to have comments from the members of our group to assist in revising and developing the final video presentation.  After using Photo Story to place the photos in order, edit and crop the photos, add script and narration to each slide, and to add titles to the necessary slides, I was able to create a soft musical backgroup to the photo slide presentation.  Our professor advised that the music could interfere with the narration, so if we added a musical background to be sure that the music level was low.  After previewing the final version, I was able to save the video into media player which was easy to download to YouTube for the final presentation.  I then uploaded the YouTube video to our group Wiki for final viewing.  The link for our MultimediaVideo Wiki site is http://multimediavidtech-edld5363.wikispaces.com/Week+1+Embedded+Video.  This allowed us to view each other's final Digital Photo Stories.  I learned so much from this assignment.  Using Photo Story 3 and also uploading the assignment to YouTube were new to me, but I was glad that I had the opportunity to use new multimedia devices that will prove very useful in the future.
